YOUTH SUNDAY—BLESSING OF BACKPACKS

The third annual Youth Sunday Mass was held August 27, 2017 at St. Casimir's Church, Lowell, MA.

On this day, children and youth sing the hymns, read the scriptures, take up the collection, and play various instruments accompanying their sisters, brothers and friends.

Readers for the day were Ian Ford-Hunt (Isaiah 22:15, 19-23) and James Bigelow (Romans 11:33-36).  Collection was taken by James Kosidlo.

Father Tenus gave a very inspiring sermon based on Jesus' question “Who do you say I am?” and asking us all to spend more time in prayer and scripture reading rather than on earthly endeavors.

The first hymn sung was “Praise Him! Praise Him!” This was followed by “Do Lord”, accompanied on the guitar by Karina Tenus. “Alleluia” was sung just before Communion.  Joseph Grieve accompanied himself on the keyboard while singing “Where He Leads Me I Will Follow”. Father Tenus accompanied the children/youth on his guitar while they sang “We Were Made To Love The Lord”.

Following the end of Mass, Father blessed the children/youth and their backpacks as they start back to school, asking for God to guide these young people in their studies and to keep them safe.

The Mass concluded with the singing of “God Bless America”.
